To be more Relaxed,

I challenge myself to Go for daily mindful walks.

Duration: 4 weeks

How will I do this?

I will go for a walk everyday for a minimum of 30 minutes, in which I will practice mindfulness and focus on my present surroundings and breathing. I will go on these daily walks alone in order to keep myself focused on the present moment and not get distracted. I will engage in this practice when I feel I need to relax and take a break from the demands of daily life. To ensure that I implement this habit, I will write it down in my daily planner to remind myself that it is as much of a priority as any other "task".

Why am I doing this?

I am participating in this R2T challenge because not only is it a great way to encourage myself to develop a new healthy habit and improve my own wellbeing; but it also allows me to fundraise for mental health initiatives! I am very passionate about the Canadian organizations that R2T chose to support, as they provide direct help to people struggling with their mental health and research related to mental health/illness. I believe these initiatives are important, as mental health affects us all in some capacity and mental illnesses are on the rise, which is why it is critical to spread awareness and work to break the stigma surrounding mental health. This past year, amidst the Pandemic, it has been really challenging for many people as we experienced many losses, which has significantly impacted overall mental wellbeing. Many of my community members who were already struggling with mental health issues have suffered even more; amplifying their challenges and increasing new ones. However, on the positive side, I have noted that the Pandemic has reinforced a strong sense of community and the importance of supporting others during difficult times simply by checking in with and taking care of each other. I love how R2T is a community movement that encourages people to thrive to be their best selves and I wish to positively contribute in encouraging others to do the same! I want to incorporate the habit of mindful walking into my daily routine, as it encourages me to be relaxed, which is something I often struggle with. I would consider myself a fast paced, energetic and hardworking individual who is always thinking about what needs to be accomplished and often forget to relax and be in the present moment. This challenge will encourage me to grow and prioritize the need for relaxation and mindfulness. As I will soon be entering the nursing field, with a keen interest in the area of psychiatry, I feel it is particularly important to have a balanced life that includes relaxation; as this profession is highly demanding. This R2T challenge is a beginning step in becoming the person I aspire to be! I am excited to challenge myself and fundraise for amazing mental health initiatives :)
